Business success 'means moving on from failure'

Success in sales jobs or other business positions means knowing how to deal with failure, one entrepreneur has stated.

Shaa Wasmund, chief executive officer or Bright Station Ventures - a company dedicated to investing in internally generated ideas - has commented that a different attitude towards failure is necessary if the UK is to rival the US in terms of business start-ups.

A recent study by NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland found that the UK would have an extra 900,000 businesses if female entrepreneurship in Britain matched that of the US.

Businesspeople in the US benefit from a greater level of support, both culturally and financially, Ms Wasmund said.

"I also think it is in their culture to be entrepreneurial and they view 'failure' much more as a lesson learned as opposed to something that's negative," she added.

Ms Wasmund was named one of Management Today's 35 women under 35, a list of the brightest young stars of business, in 2007.
