Time for firms 'to work smarter'

UK businesses should employ smarter working strategies, it has been claimed.

Phil Flaxton, chief executive of employment strategies consultancy Work Wise UK, said companies need to become more trusting of their staff in order to get the most out of them.

He commented: "We almost treat adults like children at work. You go back to your school days and you had to be there at a certain time and stay until going home time."

Mr Flaxton went on to say allowing people to be managed by output and not input is a "real stride forward" in changing the way businesses operate.

He added that many employees do not have to go to an office all day every day and can work from touchdown centres or remote hubs.

A study published by the Work Foundation earlier this week found 40 per cent of employees believe they have more skills than their jobs require, while the same proportion have little or no flexibility over the hours they worked.
