Jobseekers 'lacking interview room skills'

Candidates should work on their intuitive interactive skills when preparing for job interviews, it has been claimed.

Coaching group Communication Downloads states that remembering job interview questions and answers is not sufficient preparation.

Martin Soorjoo, president of the group, said candidates should also try to develop greater spontaneity and meeting-room confidence.

He commented: "A job applicant may know the right answers, but if they lack confidence, can't communicate effectively or sell themselves on the day, they will not get the job."

Mr Soorjoo went on to say that one complaint often made by recruiters is that applicants come to interviews with prepared answers but lack the ability to hold a conversation, which is necessary to operate in the workplace.

Last week, Renee Grant-Williams, an expert voice coach to business professionals and political candidates, suggested that projecting presence in a job interview may be the difference between an applicant securing a position and missing out.
