Sales jobs skills 'help in interviews'

By John Oak

Success in job interviews is based on similar skills to those demanded by sales jobs, it has been stressed.

According to Liz Ryan, a former Fortune 500 human resources executive, doing well in interviews comes from a candidate listening and responding carefully to questions rather than by describing business experiences.

Writing for BusinessWeek, she explained: "In this way, a job interview is very much like a sales call. In a good sales call, the salesperson steers clear of the 'show up and throw up' approach, by saving his spiel until he understands what the buyer is looking for."

Ms Ryan went on to say in a job interview, just as in a sales call, the best listener is often the person most likely to succeed.

Earlier this week, reporter Susan Ayers wrote for Examiner.com that following the correct interview etiquette can help candidates secure their dream sales jobs and stated that body language can give the impression of being either professional or inexperienced.
