Interviewers 'need to be careful' with questions

More than a third of interviewees have been asked illegal questions in the last year, including people applying for sales jobs, according to a new survey.

The online interview skills training service RecruitSure.com released the research which also showed that 80 per cent of interviewers they talked to said they had not received any formal training before carrying out interviews.

Joe McDermott, chief executive officer of the website, said: "It is vital that employers invest in interview skills training after all, a company's biggest asset is its employees."

He added that by asking questions about a candidate's age, religious beliefs or sexuality companies advertising sales jobs are risking legal action being taken against them.

Sales recruitment could be affected by the research, which shows companies need to be vigilant when conducting interviews.
